Dr. Sitaraman Sundaresan
Dr. Sitaraman Sundaresan is living his parents' ambition of having a family member in the medical profession albeit with a steadfast focus and healing touch.GCC World retraces the strides he has made by putting some questions to him.Excerpts from the chat :
GCC World: You are one of the few students to have been at the campus for both UG and PG courses, describe GCC then and now .
Dr. Sitaraman: I have seen the college grow by leaps and bounds. Initially, the college did not have many options looking at the courses offered, but that has all changed through the years. It has been a phenomenal transformation and the college can only get better and better.
GCC World: What have you picked from your long stint at GCC?
Dr. Sitaraman Loads. Especially the lessons I have imbibed from our beloved Chairman, Dr. Joseph V.G. Ihave learnt to handle the pressures in life better without speaking about the same. I strongly believe it is important to keep your cool even if you are broken into pieces.
GCC World: How would like introduce yourself to our readers?
Dr. Sitaraman : I am outgoing and I also like socializing. However, I am a person who thinks a lot before takingdecisions in life. I ponder over all my actions and look at the ways in which every decision I take will have a bearingon me in the years to come. On many occasions, I have ended up taking more time than required to say 'Yes' or 'No'. I look at things from every perspective, do a lot of research, and then come up with the solutions. GCC World: Butdoes life give you that much time?
Dr. Sitaraman : Not always, but thatis the way I am.Here in these conditions, there are a few beloved and near ones on whom I depend. I am trying the best to handle such situations.
GCC World: Your take on Physiotherapy as a course?
Dr. Sitaraman Physiotherapy requires acquisition of extreme skills to make good use of all the energies at our disposal. Medicine has advanced through the years and ventured into various ways of relieving pain. This discipline is an example. What sets it apart from the rest is the fact that patients don't have to worry about any side-effects if the diagnosis and treatment is administered properly by a well qualified physiotherapist at the right time. Physiotherapy comes as an obvious choice for patients who want pain relief without any adverse affects or long term pain. aturally, the training is very demanding and to get to the top calls for hard work, loads of courage and armour plated dreams.
GCC World: What are the issues you are grappling with in the field?
Dr. Sitaraman Awareness on health related issue is still lacking even in our metros. What this means is there is always a delay in contacting the medical practitioners. It is obvious when treatment is delayed, there are fewer outcomes.
GCC World: Any regrets?
Dr. Sitaraman : Not as such, but I would be glad if the profession is given its due recognition like in the west. In these countries, physiotherapists are considered at par with other medical professionals. That is not the case here in India.
GCC World: What are your other interests beyond your calling?
Dr. Sitaraman I have interests in diverse fields. During the initial days of my college life, I took part in a host of extra curricular activities and was the DJ at the college functions on campus. I am passionate about music and I have a large collection Music CDS and up to date with the happenings in the music industry.
GCC World : Are you a member of any professional organization?
Dr. Sitaraman Yes, the Indian Association of Physiotherapists (IAP).
GCC World: What is your ambition in life?
Dr. Sitaraman: To be a good Physiotherapist, In fact the best in the field.
