We, students are some of the busiest people in the world. To get the most from all that we do, we must be in control of our time. Otherwise decisions that effect how well we play the game, what position we play and when we get to play will be decided for us.
Our success in college depends on our use of time. While we probably have no control over when our classes are scheduled, we do have control of the rest of our time. The exams are here at last. The new semester is just round the corner... So this New Year, some tips may be helpful to accomplish your goals and use your time effectively... In short, how to manage your time...
1. Begin each semester by filling in a master schedule. First fill in things you must do (classes, work, practice, etc. that you can't change). Then, analyze the blanks you have left to find the most effective use for these times.
2. Establish a regular time and place for study. This will save you time in the long run because you will have "programmed" your mind that "this is the time and place that I study."
3. You have a study hall and a library in college? Use it!
4. Use daylight hours to study whenever possible. For most people for every one hour of study done in daylight hours, it will take them one and a half hours to do the same task at night... So, keep that in mind and get your healthy sleep schedule worked out! Get a good night's sleep. Running on empty makes the day seems longer and your tasks seem more difficult.
5. Take breaks. Don't schedule marathon study session. Several short 50 minutes sessions are better that one long session of... say 3 hours? How long does it take for you to become restless? Some learners need more frequent breaks for a variety of reasons. More difficult material may also require more frequent breaks.
6. If possible, schedule study time with a partner (*Choose your partner wisely however.) Make sure you study, not socialize. If you schedule this just like you would with basketball practice or music lessons, it becomes a routine.
7. Schedule the most difficult tasks for times when you are alert. (Maths may be hard enough when you're fresh. When you're tired, it will be impossible!)
8. Make a daily checklist. Set priorities. When studying, get in the habit of beginning with the most difficult subject or task
9. Communicate your schedule to others. If phone calls are proving to be a distraction, tell your friends that you take social calls from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. It may sound silly, but it helps.
10. Don't waste time agonizing. Have you ever wasted an entire evening by worrying about something that you're supposed to be doing? Was it worth it? Instead of agonizing and procrastinating, just do it.
11. Keep things in perspective. Setting goals that are unrealistic sets you up for failure. While it's good to set high goals for you, be sure not to overdo it. Set goals that are difficult yet reachable. Consider these tips, but personalize your habits so that they suit you. If you set priorities that fit your lifestyle, you'll have a better chance of achieving your goals. Remember, success won't walk to your doorstep. You will have to fight your way to reach its home.
All the best for managing your time effectively and efficiently!
