Achiever's Corner

Richa Maheshwari
Rank 4 Keeping INSPIRATIONS ABUNDANT

“Life at GCC has not only been a
learning experience for me.
It has also been a platform to connect
with other people and keep
my aspirations in place.”
because she draws inspiration from her father, the fourth ranked M.Sc. Applied Genetics grad, Richa Maheshwari has always been keen to explore opportunities that genetics as a career offers. Armed with her university rank, she now looks forward to pursue her doctoral studies before seeking entry into a reputed diabetes research centre. Because of the debilitating effects of diabetes, this is a challenge she has been bracing for in life and would love to be part of the solution. Because she describes herself as spiritual, simple, down to earth, bold, straight forward but at the same time fun loving her sense of duty remains firmly in place.
WHAT YOU DIDN'T KNOW: I did my schooling from DAV Public School, Sahibabad and Pre - University from L.N. Public School, Hapur in Uttar Pradesh. Undergrad was from Kurukshetra University, Haryana.
WORST KEPT SECRET: Whatever I am today is because of my parents. They have always taught me to be honest and showed the way to face challenges in life boldly.
WHAT SHE FORGOT TO SAY: Garden City College provided the platform that I used to dream and achieve a career high. I picked a lot after joining the college and truly believes at GCC, emphasis is on quality education. There is excellent infrastructure, cozy and comfy hostels, learning atmosphere and friendly lecturers ready to help as always. Apart from studies, the college has always provided extra opportunities.
WHAT SHE WOULD LIKE TO SAY: I really miss the days spent at GCC...It was like living on the edge of discovery. Standing poised on the verge of achievement is always far more pleasurable than the achievement itself. I owe my university rank to GCC.
BEST MOMENT(S): It was really a wonderful experience when I was appointed Quiz Coordinator for the national level symposium, Bio Rujivith and the all India literary and cultural fest, Gardenia. We always worked as a team and this brought about interaction between students from the participating departments and colleges.
ADVICE: To all Gardenians, set your goals and start working upon them. Make the best use of opportunities.

Nabaneeta Das, Rank 2
Setting it up for the
NOBLE PROFESSION
“I think that my success is linked to the values ingrained by my parents. There are loads of things they
helped me understand.
The importance of hard work,
honesty and having faith in my
own abilities are but three.”
because at the end of every three years, Nabaneeta’s family would pack up their bags and relocate to a new place, tracing the educational trail of the second rank M.Sc. Applied Genetics grad may be a tad difficult. During her childhood, the nature of her parent’s occupation dictated the agenda, being officers in the Indian Army. However, what did not change was her education board - CBSE. “Childhood was fun,” she reminisces. “Traveling in distant places, I made so many acquaintances across the country, hogged every kind of dishes and picked the bits and pieces of a host of Indian languages.” Further discussions on her rise to fame revolve around her upbringing in enmeshed in cultures of distant places and the values she imbibed from her parents that have always stood her in good stead.
DID YOU KNOW: She did her schooling at Shimla and Shillong. Vidyasagar University in West Bengal was the next station of call before shifting to Garden City College for her post grad studies.
BECAUSE OF HER UPBRINGING: Nabaneeta believes she has never been found wanting in all the challenges that life has thrown at her nor struggled to ‘fit in’. “It’s been spontaneous,” she explains. “Even at GCC, I got to learn about it through the print and that was enough. I knew then it would be the right place for me.”
MOTTO IN LIFE: The drive to go forward without looking back.
BEST PLACE ON CAMPUS: A lot of her time spent outside lecture halls was with friends in the cafeteria and events such as Bio Rujivith.
SOMETHING SHE FORGOT TO SAY: Just very good words about her lecturers at GCC. They were always very friendly and encouraged them to ‘go that extra mile’.
BEST KEPT SECRET: As a child, Nabaneeta always wanted to be a doctor or a teacher. The ambition of being a doctor is all in the past but she still nurtures hopes of being a teacher sometime post further studies.
ADVICE TO STUDENTS: Make the most of every moment, make choices and never look back.
