The city of Bangalore is losing it greenery at a fast pace, right? Not at Garden City College where Dr. Joseph V.G., Chairman, Garden City Group of Institutions has always ensued greenery finds a special place alongside the magnificent structures. A novel addition to the Crystals Celebrations of Gardenia has been the successful conduct of the green drive at the GCC Sports Complex.
Kick started by His Excellency Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, the former President of Maldives, each of the guests at the campus has lent a hand to the noble cause. They include Dr. Ramananda, Vice Chancellor, RGUHS, Mr. DD Purkayastha, MD and CEO, Anand Bazar Patrika (ABP), Kolkata, Mr. Murali, Cognizant Technologies, amongst other dignitaries.
The trees include Pipal Tree and Bashia, the former known for its sacred qualities and the later, its yellow band flowers and fast growth. The saplings have been sourced from Karnataka State Horticulture Department located at Lalbagh.
At the end of Gardenia, more than 15 saplings will adorn the precincts of the campus, a small contribution for a greener tomorrow.

But even Zeba Shireen of BA (Journalism, Psychology and English) and Ujwala of Biotechnology could not have envisaged the kind of spotlight they got when they opted to be part of the Media team for Gardenia 2009.
The pair was the cynosure of all eyes on their visit to Bangalore Mirror office to invite the media. “What do you like about Bangalore?” posed Rakesh P, the Editor even before they could divulge the purpose of their visit.
“The youthful crowd, the fervor, the spirit of the city or just the simple reason that everyone here pursues their activities without interfering with others... That’s great,” they echoed in unison.
