Editorial Musings

“This issue is truly special for me and by reaching out to you all; I wish to persuade all to come be a part of the family.”
"AT A TIME when India is going through great changes hanges and, with China, is likely to inherit the world from the West, it is important that writers like me try to highlight the brutal injustices of society… the great divide.” These are the words of Aravind Adiga, the debutant writer who won the booker prize for his much acclaimed ‘The White Tiger’.

Just when we thought that the world was raving about the economic miracle of India, a brutal confession by The White Tiger’ protagonist exposes the decay in the three pillars of modern India – democracy, enterprise and justice – reducing them to the tired clichés of a faltering nation. The author of this tragic tale grabs the prestigious booker, whose work has been referred to as “the dark side of India – a new territory.”

Adiga poses as an example to young India, a country whose tales are told in these forms of writing. The problem with Indian writers is peculiar – they write about India but the readership is more in other countries. This paradox creates an image of India which is alien and not the real India. Adiga thus speaks out his views with this literary indicator of ‘India Shining’
as ‘India Struggling.’

Reality may be a question of perspective, but in an age where history is being written like fiction and fiction is being read like history, the Booker for ‘The White Tiger’ might be West’s the way of telling us that it’s not been thinking about us the way we thought it was.

It is true that India needs more true writers like Aravind Adiga. GCC World and its family have worked hard, through thick and thin to contribute effectively and to make the magazine a success. This issue holds very special to my heart as it’s my very first time as an
editor. We at the family of GCC World encourage all you readers to come out in the open and lent out your feelings through this voice. It is truly the magazine for young adults, the future of our country which needs people like Adiga to contribute for the betterment of the society. You could be the next one.

This issue sheds light on the happenings and events of the campus, with our beloved chairman Dr Joseph V J, who was recently presented with the Business School Leadership Award at the 16th Business School Affaire and Dewang Mehta Business School Awards. The most interesting cover story is of the two wonders of the Biker’s Club of GCC, who carried on their message of Suraksha - Safety and Sanskriti – Culture. Hats off to the two heroes who have achieved this great mission!

We also have a few interesting episodes where the family of GCC World along with Campus Radio RJ’s, went recently on a fun filled trip to Wonder La, the amusement park. Our correspondents share from their diaries their experiences of the day. To add on a bit more zeal we have introduced a new column on Sudoku, the familiar and addictive entertainer which can keep you hooked on.

I hope all of you enjoy this issue and we hope to see your hearty contributions in the future issues. We welcome you aboard and hope you enjoy a lovely month ahead with the semester almost coming to an end.

Life gives us enough reasons to celebrate and what is better than a festival. GCC World wishes all its readers a very ‘Happy Diwali’ and all the very best of luck in the exams!
