The new Academic Year 2007- 08 was marked by Freshers TDay celebrations. Garden City Co l l e g e wa s f o r t u n a t e a n d overwhelmed to have very eminent and distinguished personalities gracing the occasion. His Lordship Justice N Santhosh Hegde, Lok Ayukta, Karnataka and the former Judge of the Supreme Court of India was at the campus as the Chief Guest of Honour and inaugurated the new block of hostel at the campus.

In a touching gesture, he went live on air on Campus Radio - an initiative of Dr. Joseph V.G., Chairman, Garden City Group of Institutions for students of the college - and freely interacted with the budding RJs. Campus Radio features infotainment and edutainment.

Addressing the students at the GCC Auditorium, he called upon the students to build a value based and responsible society. Blaming the older generation for moral decadence so evident in the society today, His Lordship reiterated that there is no difference when you consider how individuals acquire wealth.

Give respect to the individual irrespective of the wealth acquired in a good way or the other,” noted the Chief Guest. “Unfortunately, all we have succeeded in doing in teaching the younger generation how to worship wealth because the wealthy are our role models.”

His Lordship called upon the students to distinguish between good and ill gotten wealth. “You should all desire what is well within the affordable limits of your parents' legitimate income.” His Lordship caused laughter in the audience when he noted that if there is one thing that is secular in the country today, it is corruption.

The Guest of Honour on the occasion was the world acclaimed journalist Shri Sunny Kulathakal, Ma n a g i n g Di r e c t o r, S u n l i z Publications, Bahrain and a well wisher of the college. Both the Guests where welcomed on campus and felicitated by Dr. Joseph.V.G., Chairman- Garden City Group of Institutions. Also present on the occasion was Prof. Coutinho, President GCC Governing Council.
