On a cold and foggy Monday morning, the dawn of a new year. Gradually, the sharp sun rays kill the thick fog blanketing the room. I sense new warmth in the air around. As I pounce on the newspaper, expectant of something new and special to lead my day, India v/s India, it reads. "There are two India's in this country".

One India wants. The other India hopes.
One India leads. The other India follows.
A new India is emerging. An India whose faith in success is far greater than its fear of failure.
History is turning a page.

One India- a tiny little voice at the back of the head- is looking at the bottom of the ravine and hesitating.

The other India is looking up at the sky and saying, it is time to fly.

The full front-page note represented a campaign launched by a leading media house.

At the back of my developing brain, the note signalled a picture of an unequal division of an egg; the small half -Urban India-delved in the all enriching yolk, overflowing; leaving the other large half-Rural India into a hollow and dry cover, destined for disposal.

One India wants. The other India hopes.
In a literal sense, all of us understand and admit that there is a split within the motherland; a division leading to discrimination based on economy, literacy, lifestyle and other material pursuits.

The urban India destined for self-progress and to exploit.
The rural India born to suffer and be exploited.

1947- The year of India's independence. The dawn, in 1947 came with the hopes of a nation's freedom. 60 years down the line, 2007 dawns with a scream of despair - the discovery of dismembered skeletons of more than a dozen children in Nithari, a Noida suburb. The shivering act of savagery, no doubt, showered plenty of hopes to the rural populace. Six decades since independence, the rural Indian community, struggling amidst inequality, exploitation and poverty, have not seen the faintest change. The rich and affluent accomplished the unachievable while the poor and deprived, buried deep under the soil of ignorance and injustice, continue to struggle for survival, then and now.
