A versatile personality who has never missed an opportunity to showcase his extraordinary talents, Karan
Singh Kapur is focused on his B.Sc. course in Biotechnology at GCC. A couple of years down the line, he
looks ahead with optimism to a career in the same discipline and a chance to contribute to the larger goals of
the society. Already, he has embraced the sweet taste of success. At one time the country’s 6th rank junior
table tennis player, a member of the Bangalore University table tennis team at the All India Inter University
Championships, and an important cog in the wheel of the GCC cricket team (with innumerable contributions
with ‘bat and ball’), Karan has his hands full.
GCC World caught up with the talented youngster in the midst of rehearsals for the college’s New Year Fete
and he did not disappoint unfurling a guitar from its case to strum a cover song, revealing another facet of his
persona. In a freewheeling conversation on the eve of the New Year 2007, he talks about his childhood, the
love for his late grandfather (incidentally, at one time, the point man of India’s freedom fighter Subhash
Chandra Bose) and the charged campus atmosphere.
Excerpts from the interview: Talk us through your formative years
From my childhood, my parents have not imposed on me their interests. The only thing they have insisted on
is my studies. ‘Son, do all that you want to do, but your studies take topmost priority’. That has been
the case throughout my schooling and now in college. I guess I have been able to follow all my pursuits with
the right attitude.
What do you attribute yoursuccesses to?
I have great love for a host of activities, making use of the innumerable openings that have come my way.
But at the end of it all, my love for studies has never been on the ebb. I look forward to a career in the field of
biotechnology. It’s the only way I feel that I will be able to give something meaningful to the society and show
gratitude for the support I have receivedfrom various sources.
Experiences on campus?
It’s been an experience like no other and I am having a great time here. There is no dearth of encouragement,
be it academics or extra curricular activities. Look at my case, I have been able to participate in a host of
sports (cricket and table tennis), music and still maintained a healthy average of 70% in my studies.
I could nothave asked for more. |
