He recalls the dates of significant landmarks in the transition from the rustic traditions of Jakhalabandha, nestled 200 kilometers from Guwahati ( Assam) to the fast paced life in Bangalore (Karnataka) with alacrity. And in his measured responses, he never fails to mention those who have played a significant role in his growth or sowed the seeds of success as he carries on his shoulders the hopes and aspirations of a generation. Simple, humble, and endowed with remarkable skills, he has set high standards for himself on the GCC campus and remains a source of inspiration for a contingent of equally disciplined Cadets. Welcome to the world of CSUO -Rajan Narayan. In a chat with GCC World, the dreamer, achiever and winner insists what he represents today is because of the values inculcated by his parents, the sclose ties he shares with his younger siblings, the opportunities for students at GCC and the avenues for Cadets to experience the disciplined life of military officers in the service of their country. GCC World: Tell us about your childhood? CSUO Rajan: My parents come from Andhra Pradesh but I was born and brought up in Assam. My father is an employee of Oil India Limited and my mother is a home maker. I did my schooling at Kendriya Vidyalaya No. 1 in Tezpur, Asssam before the shift to Garden City College. I must confess I did not have an inkling of how life will be in such a city having lived my entire life in a simple rural environment without all the trappings of contemporary lifestyles. Bangalore was a big shift for me but I accepted the challenges, and vowed to make the best of life. My hard work and support from GCC has helped me accept the challenges and made the grade, acknowledging the changed scenario with humility. GCC World: What are the adjustments you have been called upon to make? CSUO Rajan: I cannot say there is something special I have been called upon to do. I am a very adaptable person and can move easily with the changing times. GCC World: What has been your experience in NCC? CSUO Rajan: I have been part of NCC activities since joining GCC, something that was a chance occurrence. It gave me a new family. I have attended the Combined Annual Training Camp (CATC), twice in Vidyanagar, Bangalore and attended the Army Attachment Camp with the 14 Assam Regiment in Trivandrum, Kerala. The experiences have been a revelation. GCC World: Your life at GCC? CSUO Rajan: It has been a great experience. The support I have got from the college has been tremendous, right from the lecturers and leader ANO Lt. Vishnu to my fellow students, just about everyone on the campus. I have also come to learn how to make life more beautiful by meeting people from across cultures with diverse talents, and the best of all, to be in a position where I am confident to say I can face the competitive world and strive for success without any fear or inhibitions. |
