Church Street, off Brigade Road here in Bangalore is famous for its restaurants. So much so that it is known as, the Eat Street for it has the most number of eating joints on one stretch of road. On this haven for foodies, just below Amoeba, is a restaurant named 20 ft High.Climb the wooden staircase and you will be greeted by smiling and very pleasant waiters. Select your favourite place and sit down for extremely efficient service. The water will be served and a triangular menu will be placed before you. Take your pick from a wide variety of salads, pasta, steaks and desserts. The food served is basically Italian and European. You could order a sizzler with your choice of beverage or go for a tasty burrito with sour cream and mixed salad. Choose a lime soda, a mocktail or if you have the taste for out try out the cocktails.20 ft High also offers soups. Mediterranean salad, which has a tangy taste to it, is definitely something you must try. It has cucumber, lettuce, cottage cheese and many other veggies with black olives in Balsam Vinaigrette. Russian salad too is creamy and very delicious. Other salads include Stuffed Mushroom salad, Bruschetta salad that is made of plum tomatoes with olive oil, fresh basil and other veggies and is served with garlic bread. The main course is extensive and mind-blowing if you ask us. There are dishes like Chicken Diana which is a sizzler made of combination of chicken breast and chicken mince, grilled and cooked in Brown Sauce, laced with red wine and garnished with cheese and mushrooms; Chicken Stroganoff which consists of chicken cubes , capsicum, and coked in mushroom sauce, served with buttered rice. There are Tequila Fajitas, Roasted lamb with Rosemary sauce, California Lasagne, Fish Steak Gratin, Breaded Fish Fillet to satiate your hungry, growling stomach. Vegetarians though get a less variety to choose from. You could order a Veggie Pepper Steak or go for a Vegetable Burrito. Cottage Cheese Steak and Trio Vegetable though rule the roost. Baked Corn Kernel and Gratin Potato make for a light meal. The best thing about this place is that you can make your own pasta with the sauce that suits your taste buds. There is spaghetti, penne, fettuccine, fussilli and farfelle at your disposal. Sauces include Bolognaise, Al-la-Marinae, and Al-Pollso-toscana amongst many others. Lime Pie and Tiramisu satisfy your sweet tooth. The pricing is on the expensive side with salads costing around Rs.105. pastas could cost you Rs.180 and the main course dishes are priced between Rs.170 to Rs.220. 20 ft High is a great place to hang out with friends as you are seated on the terrace with a Parisian café touch. Soft lighting in the nights with soft music adds a fairy tale touch. The waiters are quick to address your needs and are thankfully not over-bearing. The music, though, could be better. Sometimes it gets a tad bit too mushy. Overall, a perfect place to go to on a relaxed evening with time in your hands and a great appetite. It is not a place for people on a diet or for the calorie conscious. It is not a place for people who do not enjoy different cuisines and who stick to the same old boring food. It is a place for those who do not refrain from trying out unknown tastes; for those who have the gumption to delve in the unfamiliar territories; for those who understand that the essence of life is in seeking and sampling foreign flavour.People who love food will know what we are talking about.
