Gardenians bag Internships at Maruwa

They are eight enterprising students; a bunch of inquisitive minds, a team ready to give it all to learn and discover the intricacies of their chosen field of study. And when opportunity comes knocking on their door, they sure know how to invite it to stay for dinner.

One of the leading companies in the world, Maruwa, a Malaysian company dealing with IT came to Garden City College and roped in the students currently studying MCA, for its internship programme. To test the skills and knowledge of the students, the team had to bring out a novel module for the company's graphic user interface. The time given to students to complete the project was just a night, a deadline met with ease.

Happy with their performance, the representatives gave the IT students a second project. This time they had to build another module in a space of one month. Satisfied with the technical know how of the students, they invited them for a six months paid internship with a promise of absorbing them on their successful completion. All the students will be working as programmers. They will be staying exclusive apartments during the professional sojourn. The students come from all strata of society. Two of them, Ravish from Malapuram in Kerala and Basvarajan, come from a rural background and going abroad, the first in their respective village their families. Jyoti is from Patiala and the only girl in the group. Ask her if that makes her anxious and she replies, "I am very comfortable in this group. Being the only girl does not worry me at all. If anything, it will work to my advantage, as I will be listened to more. In addition, I meet these people in class everyday. Therefore, I do not feel lost in any way."

The reactions of their parents provide an interesting perspective. Kaleefa, from Chennai, says, "Not once did my mother look worried. She was very happy that I had this opportunity. My father too encouraged me to go for it and wished me well in Malaysia." His friend, Vivek Kumar from Etawha, UP, seconds his statement. He says, "My family too was ecstatic about this opportunity. However, my mother did remind me to return home and not setde there after the conclusion of the internship," he adds.

So will they come back to India or if given a chance stay back in Malaysia ? The consensus was that if they do well, they would take up jobs there and come back to India only later. They all agreed that it was time to think of their careers and they would work hard towards that. Considering Maruwa is a world famous company, it would give them a substantial platform to better their careers after this internship .

One would think that these students would have jitters about the fact that they are going to a new country for a period of six months. Somehow, they do not feel so. Says Sanjay, a resident of Calicut, "We do not have any worries about going to Malaysia . In fact, we are confident that it will be a good experience for us. Now this sure is surprising. Laksmisha from Bangalore elaborates, "We all are going in a group so that is a great help. Further, the college authorities have already been to Malaysia and returned with a favourable impression. Therefore, we are secure in the knowledge that it is not a bad place."

Himanshu from Angul, Orissa adds, "Nothing could have been better than this internship. Considering we are going as Himanshu from Angul, Orissa adds, "Nothing could have been better than this internship. Considering we are going as Programmers and will be getting a stipend at the same time get training, it sure is a great chance for us to prove ourselves. We aim to come back with a lot more knowledge and much more successful."

Bon Voyage!
