I have seen Suchi Durgapal frequently on GCC campus. But if only I had known that she is such a wonderful person to talk to, perhaps I would have made it a point to introduce myself to her sooner. Anyway, I got a chance to meet her personally for this interview and her gentle demeanour made it so easy to get through with my questions. Suchi comes across as a down to earth girl and someone you can always rely on when in distress. Her words are well measured as she reflects on every issue before saying anything instead of just shooting from the lip. It came as no surprise that she was chosen as the “Best Outgoing Student - Biotechnology Batch of 2006-07.

Q: Tell us something about yourself.
A: I come from Nainital and since a very young age I had wanted to do my graduation. I want to do something different and did not want to become a doctor or an engineer. And so here I am. I came to know of this college through one of my uncles. And I have loved my stay here. Q: You have taken part in a host of activities on campus. How do you balance your studies and the myriad pursuits you are involved with?
A: I do not like to waste my time idling. Instead, I prefer to make the best use of time. I feel it is very important to have an all-round personality. If given an extra hour, perhaps I would read a book, paint or do something constructive. I just find it so easy to maintain this kind of equilibrium in my studies and extra curricular activities. I guess it boils down to time management. Also, I come to the realisation that the more the things I get involved in, the more I am focused on my studies. This has worked out so well for me. Q: Why do you think you were given the Best Student Award?
A: (Smiles) I think, and please don't get me wrong on this. May be it is the reward for all the activities I have taken part in. One of course has to work hard. You can not confine yourself to your studies and books alone. You have to be equally good in academics as well as extra curricular activities. I feel that I have been able to do all this with some amount of success and thus I was chosen. Q: Graduation. What next?
A: I intend to finish my MSc. in some area of Biotechnology itself and then I may do my PhD. Also I am interested in medical genetics and the civil services appeals to me. I still have not decided on anything yet. Let's see where life takes me.
Q: Anything you would like to say about the college?
A: I think the college has helped me to evolve in many ways. I have got many opportunities to discover the hidden traits of my personality. I am grateful to this institution for whatever I have achieved here. |
