According to CSM Sunil, “This was by far the most successful Coy,” butts in Bijan. “We took part in several camps this year bringing accolades to the college. CSM Bhaskar Chaudhary like many of his friends in NCC nurtures a similar ambition of joining the forces. “I would be glad to join and give my best.” Interestingly, for some of the cadets, this was their second stint in NCC and others drew inspiration from members of their families in the forces. “I was part of NCC during my schooling in Orissa,” informs the articulate student. Brought up in Orissa, Bijan also nurtured similar ambitions right through his schooling. He was to join the NCC and thereafter attended various camps during his school days. “This was not something new for me but certainly the experience at GCC has been a different one,” he acknowledges. “I don't think I would have got a similar experience elsewhere. That is the beauty of this college and the Coy,” Bijan has taken part in many camps. Another cadet who nurtured hopes of joining NCC as a young lad is JUO Kishley Chettri. Since then, he has been part of just about every activity the cadets have been involved in. And then there is the BBM class topper, CSUO Joe Christy. Together with JUO Kishley, they have shown remarkable leadership skills. So what does it take to be an NCC cadet? “I guess one has to have the drive and ambition to do well in the field,” explains JUO Kishley. You need the focus, determination and commitment. “I am sure those who can endure the grind of the training will certainly fit in any setting.” Behind the focus, aspirations, there have been other forces at work that they acknowledge. “We will always remain greatly indebted to the college, the city and all the people who have in one way or the other contributed to our success,” says. Sgt. Navneet. “The chairman, Dr. Joseph V.G., has been of tremendous help to the activities of the NCC. Without his support, nothing would have been possible on our own.” The sojourn has been an exercise in organization, time management, devotion, dealing with different people, different situations, discipline and being in a position to always smile even under intense and terrifying conditions. “The support from the management is one reason. The teamwork another,” explains JUO Kishley Chhetri. “The guidance of Lt. Vishnu Pandhare, ANO of GCC NCC has been exceptional. This made it easy for us to be competitive.” The activities in NCC obviously were not a cakewalk. The students came face to face with myriad challenges. “It is remarkable that one can come out of all this unscathed,” offers CSM Bhaskar. ”We thrived on the challenges.” So what is the secret behind the success of the fab team? According to the cadets, their positive attitude and hard work paid off. As senior students, they always felt that they had to lead by example hence they advocated for professionalism in every activity that formed part of their training. The results are there for all to see. As they prepare to bid adieu, CSUO Christy believes they will be carrying into their next stage, the discipline and ideals they picked up during their stint. The crowning moment though will be when they finally realize their dreams. One realizes the day may not be far away looking at their remarkable feats. |
