| Educational institution is the temple of knowledge. Bangalore University, has students from across the world, is also one of the largest universities in Asia, controlling more than 600 colleges. Hence, the responsibility of the Registrar of Bangalore University is huge and need quality skills and excellent aptitude.
Mr. Sanjay Vir Singh, Inspector General of Police has taken this responsibility and today he is the Registrar of Bangalore University. It was an evening of Graduation for Post Graduate students when Mr. Singh visited our college campus. Fortunately, I could get a hold of him and put a few questions across him. Excerpts from the interview: Q: How are you feeling after taking the charge of Bangalore University as its Registrar?
I am happy and I would be punctual in what I will do. It's an honor to be the Registrar of a university, which is considered to be one of the largest universities in Asia and consists of more than 400 colleges. Q: You are probably the first person in history of BU with magnanimous achievements in administrative field. How would you express the resentment of politicians on you taking up a job of Registrar, BU?
A: Politicians are highly critical on responding to others achievements. But I have good experience in various fields. I was an engineering student at IIT, I did a Post graduate Diploma in Business Management from IIM, and I got selected for Indian Police Service as well. With my experience I am capable of handling this post with utmost sincerity. Q: What is the one thing that you would connect to the job of a Registrar from that of an IPS officer?
A: In my career as an IPS, I have always given importance to discipline. I think discipline is the core of educational institution. I will focus on discipline in the colleges and will see to that all colleges follow the rules and regulations issued by the university. Q: Why is there a recurrent delay in semester exams?
A: Colleges are responsible for the delay. Most of the colleges try to finish the formalities on examinations on the due time but are unable to hence we unwillingly postpone the dates time sheet. Sixth semester students may have to face problems during admissions in other institutions. But we will definitely help them out. Q: How has the semester system contributed for the success of BU?
A: Exactly right now there is no a single go. The semester system has been a hodgepodge of success and failure. With the introduction of the semester system, there is a sudden up swing in the workload, a lot of challenges during the conduct of exams and declaration of results on time. Monitoring the condition of BU, a number of universities have put a hold on introduction of semester system. However, we insist on giving the ultimate in meeting the complexities. Q: What procedures will you implement to fasten the work in the university?
A: We don't get teachers a hand full to evaluate the answer scripts, this being the reason for delay in declaration of the results. As a remedy I have decided that the colleges, not sending their teachers for evaluation, their answer scripts won't be corrected. For us, the students' future is important and we won't compromise on this.
Q: Can you share some pearls of wisdom with us Gardenians?
A: Jnanapeeth Award winner and one of the most famous Hindi poet Maithili Sharan Gupt once recited, "Nar ho na nirash karo man ko, kuch kaam karo, kuch kaam karo". It means you are a human being. You must not get disappointed and should work constantly. It will surely lead you to big success. Students should give up unnecessary worries and work hard. They will definitely reach a peak in their career. |
