A new name in the field of education emerged when Garden City Education Trust was established in 1985. The Trust was started with the vision of providing quality and affordable education. Under the aegis of the Chairperson, Dr. Joseph V. G., a visionary educationist, Garden City Group of Institutions has crossed one milestone after another.

Today, the Group has under its banner Garden City College, Capital College, GCC – Physiotherapy, GCC- Nursing, Deva Matha Central School, together these institutions provide education to students from every state of India as well as from 53 countries writes Anumeha Verma.

GCC is now more than a decade old with 13 post graduate courses and 12 undergraduate courses and still growing. “The College has shown a remarkable progress both in terms of infrastructure as well as quality of education,” says Ms. Radhika Menon, a former student of GCC. “The transformation has been remarkable with the college developing a lot in these years.”

According to the GCC alumna, though the Lab facilities were quite good compared to other colleges, the college has added much more. Things are looking better. “The number of lecturers has increased and the library facilities have improved along with other facilities on campus.” The same thought is echoed by Mr. Pradipto Bannerjee, a former student of Biochemistry who also happens to be a lecturer at GCC. “I belong to the first batch of Biochemistry students who graduated from GCC. Then, the department was just at the nascent stage but today the facilities are much better.”

Many former students feel that GCC has also contributed a great deal towards furthering the interests of the students in fields other than education. Says Ms. Radhika Menon: “I was always interested in cultural and literary activities and the college gave me a platform to further my interests,” she continues. “GCC is well known for its fests- Gardenia and Gardenia Internationale – that we actively took part and enjoyed a lot.”

GCC also has several hostels that provide accommodation to the students. The students find the hostels here much better than several other places. “The hostel facilities here are excellent and we cannot dream of staying in hostels at other places. Also, the cleanliness maintained at college is a plus point,” points out Mr. Pradipto Bannerjee.
