| Life for today is the motto this young and talented final year student of Master of Science in Genetics and RJ of the well known GCC Campus Radio believes in. Nikhil Kumar is not only a favorite of all Gardenians but also a humble person. GCC World team caught up with him. Excerpts from the Interview:
1. Tell us a little about your growing up years?
I was born and brought up in Mumbai. I did my Bachelor of Science in Genetics from the University of Mumbai. Since a young age, I have been influenced by all genres of music. I always took part in singing competitions at the national and state level. I also took part in debates and was interested in hobbies such as Art and Travel.
2.Tell us about your experiences as an RJ?
From the time I joined Campus Radio, it has been an amazing time. It has been a terrific learning experience for me. During Gardenia, we used to stay up for late nights working on scripts. We had a fantastic team that put in their heart and soul in to what they did. I am happy that I was given the opportunity to meet some of the eminent personalities from both the industry and academia. I will always cherish those moments.
3. Your experiences at Garden City College?
Initially when I joined, I was not used to wearing formals. I always felt that I am a grown up. Because in Mumbai we were allowed to wear casuals to college. But later I have come to realise that wearing formals make us look smart. GCC is one place where you can be yourself. You are given a lot of exposure and opportunities which you cannot find in any other institution. I had a very interesting experience when I was appointed coordinator for the recently concluded National Level Symposium, Bio- Rujivith. You learn a lot here.
4. How did you develop an interest in RJ?
It just happened. Nothing was planned. Giri sir asked me try out a script. He had seen me doing the cinematography for the film Dreamers, Achievers and Winners. And I had gone for the dubbing. So I just went and tried it out. And it just clicked. I am thinking of pursuing a part time career as RJ.
5. Tell us about your experiences during the cinematography days?
It was all in all a learning experience. Our team did not comprise students from electronic media and for us coming from the life sciences, we had no clue of what we were doing. You can see in the movie that the first half of the movie has some disturbance since we did not know how to use the camera. We had a lot of fun. While shooting for the movie, we realized that there is so much hard work and commitment that go into making a movie. It was a great experience.
6. Your advice to the Gardenians?
Enjoy everyday life in college. Make full use of the opportunities given to you. Have a lot of fun.
