GCC World : Your life in India?
Ms. Saroopa: The food and eating habits are a trifle different but it has never been a problem. I have enjoyed the festivals especially Holi. Obviously, I felt homesick in the initial phase but made it up through friends.
GCC World : Your stay in India?
Ms. Saroopa: It has been a great experience. No regrets!

GCC World : Adjusting in India?
Ms. Saroopa: It is all about making the right balance as well as understanding what is expected of one in the society. It has not been difficult and there was no added pressure to gain acceptance. This has made it relatively easier for the students from the Emerald Island to come together especially in activities that call for collective efforts.

 GCCWorld:Life at GCC:
Ms. Saroopa: It has been great. I got a lot of support from the faculty. A good rapport exists between the students and the teachers at the college. The teachers are really great...mothers away from mothers. They have been of help in both academics and personal matters and I really appreciate it a lot.

GCC World :Why the fascination for Genetics?
Ms. Saroopa: From childhood, I wanted to pursue Genetics which is about ‘building blocks of life’. I find it interesting with all its intricacies.
Post bachelors, I do hope to work for some time and gain practical exposure before taking up a master’s degree.
GCC World : You seem to be so involved in extra curricular activities?

Ms. Saroopa: I believe what I am today is not only because of what I learnt inside the classroom but outside as well. I am happy I did not miss anything by getting involved in work beyond the classroom. I miss my school days, the teamwork and leadership positions that helped me imbibe the virtues in life such as punctuality. Of course, the scolding from my mother helped me understand the importance of neatness and being organized even though I was always fussy when she reprimanded me. This has helped me in the hostel...neatness, organization and staying with my roommates.

GCC World : Best moment?

Ms. Saroopa: Being awarded the best outgoing student of the Department of Genetics at Gardenia Internationale.

GCC World : Message?
Ms. Saroopa: Engage in a lot of hard work, balance academics and extra curricular activities, take opportunities and make them memorable, play the right card. It is the best and only way!
