NARNIA

I f you’re looking for adventure and fantasy this summer, step in at your nearest theatre and make sure you watch Chronicles of Narnia 2. That is exactly what we did.

The choice of this blockbuster was partially guided by the trailers and the reviews. Almost everyone we oke to could only rave on and on about its pgrade from the earlier Chronicle. The trailers gave a sneak preview of what to expect. Unlike many fantasy movies, Prince Caspian promised a more mature and sophisticated approach when using graphics and special effects. Also the first movie was very entertaining in terms of the plot as well as its cinematography that this built up a lot of expectations towards the sequel. However, after watching Prince Caspian, we are happy to report that not only did it meet our expectations but exceeded them completely.

Set in dark tones signifying equally ark times, this film has not only broken box office records worldwide but has also exceeded the expectations built by its predecessor “The Lion, The Witch & The Wardrobe”

The movie begins with the birth of Prince Caspian’s cousin, a boy second in line to the throne of the ngdom of Telmarines. The infant’s father, Miraz plots to kill Prince Caspian and claim the throne for himself. Aided by his Professor, however, Prince Caspian manages to escape the castle and flees to the forest. In desperation, while fighting off the soldiers, Caspian blows on a mysterious horn that is supposed to bring him help. This plea is carried to the Pevensie sibling-Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy- who are now leading regular lives in London. They once more find themselves in Narnia only to discover that their one year outside Narnia has equaled to 1,300 Narnian years. The movie then unfolds on a journey of the four children to find and help Prince Caspian reclaim his throne and also fight for the rights of the now suppressed Narnians.

Produced by Walt Disney and Walden Media, this film is perfect for all those ooking for a power-packed and visually stunning display of cinema. The film sees a lot of the old characters returning and also introduces new talent and new characters. The title role is played by Ben Barnes, a relatively new find

As Prince Caspian, he breathes life into the characters and essays the path with a lot of passion and incerity. All the four returning principle characters are now older, mature and much more polished in heir acting skills. Peter and Edmund Pevensie - played by William Moseley and Skandar Keynes - do justice to the roles of the young Kings of Narnia. William Moseley especially shows a lot of growth in character and portrays the character of a young, conflicted King with surprising ease. Susan and Lucy, played by Anna Popplewell and Georgie Henley also lend a lot of grace and poise to their roles. Lucy isespecially endearing in her belief that Aslan the lion is always looking out for them. Sergio Castellitto who plays the evil king Miraz in the film also delivers a fine performance and really convinces people of his cruel nature.

The movie is shot in New Zealand, Slovania , Poland and Czech Republic and every scene is a visual delight. Directed by Andrew Adamson, the film transports you to a completely different world and holds your attention till the very end. This film, unlike the first installment also makes use of a lot of graphics, animation, and special effects and therefore, brings to us lovable characters like the brave talking mouse Reepicheep and a wise and sarcastic adger named Trufflehunter. The fight sequences between the lmarines and the Narnians are more real and visually appealing than the first movie. Thus, the xpectations are now higher than ever for the following installments of the Chronicles and a film worth every penny you spend. Whether you go with friends, with family, or alone, you can be assured that you’ll be enthralled throughout the 147 minute long adventure into the heart of Narnia.
