13th-_ the day it all began
 February
13th, 2007, marked the inauguration of Gardenia,
an inter-collegiate festival hosted by the Garden
City College. The occasion was marked by the presence
of eminent personalities like Dr. Ali Irani, president
of the Indian Association of Physiotherapists,
Mr. Steven David, bureau chief, India Today and
Mrs. Usha KR, Associate Editor, IMMB, Management
Review, IIM Bangalore. The inaugural function
began with the college choir, GCC Choir praising
the Lord with their prayer song. This was followed
by the customary lighting of the lamps. the guests
were then offered floral compliments. The college
magazine, GCC World was inaugurated for the month
of February. Dr. Ali Irani was then welcomed to
give his speech where he emphasized on the importance
of parents on the life of their children. He urged
the Chairman,
Dr. Joseph V G, to build a medical and dental
institution. Mrs. Usha KR then came on the dais
to offer her valuable views. She offered her overwhelmed
congratulations to the college for being such
an institution of repute. She accentuated on the
merits of reading as a hobby. Mr. Steven David,
a wonderful orator enthralled the august gathering
with his skill. He called the Chairman, Dr. Joseph
V G, a 'Visionary Gardenian' and stressed on the
intrinsic worth of character and education. This
was succeeded by the presidential address by the
honorable Chairman, Dr. Joseph V G. After the
vote of thanks the programme came to an end.
February 14th the
second day
The second day of Gardenia-2007
unfolded with immense expectations
and undoubtedly; it was a huge success. The Department
of Life Sciences was responsible for the day's
function. The Guests of honour for the day were
Mr. C V Yelamaggad working at the Center for Liquid
Crystal Research and a proud recipient of the
Sir C V Raman Award 2005 and Mr. K Dinakaran HR
Manager at The Grand Ashok.
Welcoming the guests with
their beautiful song was the GCC choir. This was
followed by a welcome dance by Drishya and Jisha,
students from Department of Life Sciences. The
guests, then, received floral complements from
the Chairman and were felicitated by him as a
token of appreciation. Mr.
C V Yelamaggad was invited to address the gathering
wherein he emphasized on the importance of higher
education. He also related the significance of
having good infrastructure and excellent faculty
in an educational institution.
Mr. K Dinakaran inspired
the audience with his encouraging words. He informed
students about the merits of keeping abreast with
the latest developments in one's chosen field.
The Presidential Address
by our beloved chairman inspired the students
to utilize the opportunities offered to them and
brought the program to an end. 
The day's cultural unveiled
with a special fashion show organized by the department
of bio-technology. The first round was called
street wear, the girls were with caps and the
boys wore funky pants to bring out the street
touch. This program was conducted by Musharaf
and the choreographer was Sourav of 3rd year Bio-Tech.
Next was a breath taking
performance by Miss Sudeshana for a song from
the movie Guru. He performance was definitely
a treat to the eyes.
The second round of the
fashion show was dedicated to Valentines day.
The boys were in black formals with a red rose
as a symbol of love, girls wore white skirts and
with balloons with the shape of hearts to bring
out the true meaning of love. Then came the Cupid
the angel of love.
Next was a sizzling performance
by Zest and Zeal from the department of Bio-Tech
they performed for songs Baro so re, mega mega,
Babu chal chaliye, and Chamma chamma.
With that came our second
host for the day Mansoor Hassan. Next was IT Rockers
from the deparment of BCA who performed for dhoom
Machale.
Roll 4 Soul performed
for Bin tere from the movie Woh Lamhe. This was
also dedicated to the Valentines day.
Next was a very interesting
performance by the final year students of Bio-Tech
they performed for Pan Banares from the movie
Don.
Then came a special dedication
from Sourav from the department of BCA. He dedicated
three songs Dewana, Kyuh chati he Jawan.
The grand finale was a
fashion show by the BCA students the theme was
Zodiac signs, The name for the fashion show was
Zodia cons
February 15th, mid way
through the fest
The mood of the day was
to celebrate, with music and a great crowd this
was pretty much possible. And so began the culturals
for the second last day of the largest college
fest in the country 'Gardenia'. The
crowd loved the Bhangra by the students of the
Department of Hotel Management. 'Foot loosers',
the group constituted by the Journalism students
with their creative & innovative thinking came
up with the stunning freestyle performance. To
captivate the audience, students of Nursing with
their group named as “Daffodils” showcased their
talent performing on the fusion.
This was followed by a
dance performance on the latest sensation in music
“Saiyaan re” from “Salaam-e-ishq”, by the members
of GCC 'Roll 4 Soul' Dance Academy. Their show
was magnificent with immense co-ordination and
decorative costumes.
It will be highly unjust
in our part to miss out the astounding performance
of Joseph Jackson, a student from the department
Hotel Management dancing on the tunes of Michael
Jackson.
Department of Life Sciences
took the show forward. It seemed that the entire
world seemed to be dancing with the girls of the
group; 'Zenith'. Vishesh, a student of department
of Fashion and Apparel designing brought the crowd
to their feet with an awesome dance performance
on “Beedi jala le”.
One good performance was
followed by another. The GCC Roll 4 Soul, Dance
Academy took an edge with their mind-blowing show
on Shakira's “Hips Don't Lie”.
Another group titled “Nakshatra”
from Life Sciences department added to the success
of the day. Last,
but not the least the day ended with the glamorous
fashion shows presented by the students of the
department of Hotel Management. Elements of life-
air, water, fire and earth was the theme and by
their performance, students paid homage to the
essentials of life. The fashion show marked the
end of the cultural for the day.
The Formal function was
graced by Dr Lalitha and Dr. Sreemani two very
prominent personalities from the fields of Nursing
and Mathematics respectively. Our beloved chairman
Dr.Joseph VG was also present. The GCC choir performed
the prayer song. The welcome dance was performed
by two students from the department of nursing.
The dignitaries
were then guided on to the dais by our chairman.
The guests were later felicitated by our chairman.
Dr Sreemani in her address said that in today's
world the nursing profession is faced by many
challenges. And she said it was because they lack
qualified lecturers. She also thanked our beloved
chairman for his untiring efforts in building
an institution which provides a world class education.
She was quotes saying he is a man with a vision.
And also congratulated him for the mega event
he organizes every year. Dr Lalitha in her speech
congratulated the students and the management
for job well done. And she also thanked the chairman
for giving the students an opportunity to showcase
their talents. Chairman Sir in his presidential
address wished the students for their excellent
work. And blessed the students. The vote of thanks

Festival 2007, 16th February Gardenia did live
up to its motto “Let A million hearts bloom”.
The Department of Management lived up to the tradition
of 'one department organizing one evening's cultural
show' organized the day's culturals. The hosts
for the day were Mr. Kunal and Miss. Raifa. The
dance performance by Joseph Jackson on the lines
of Michael Jackson mesmerized the audience. A
Salsa performance by the students of the Department
of Journalism was well received by the crowd.
The 'Modern Stars' performance was something different;
they performed from the old songs to the newer
foot tapping numbers. The next performance brought
the audience to their feet. It was a dance number
from the latest sensation 'Dhoom 2'. Next a dance
from the neighboring state of Maharashtra was
performed by a group of girls from the department
of Bio-technology. Since Gardenia is all about
opening oneself to change and accepting everyone,
a guest performance by one of the invited colleges
was applauded immensely for. Their stunts were
amazing, and to add icing to the cake they had
excellent coordination. It was definitely a treat
for the eyes. This was followed by a Kannada number
from the movie “Jogi” performed by our in house
dance academy 'Roll 4 Soul'. A brilliant dance
performance by Vishesh, a student of 1st year
Department of Fashion and Apparel Designing on
Kajra re was mind blowing. And the crowning glory
was the fashion show. Gardenia
surely left a million enthralled.
The formal function was
graced by one of the most prominent personalities
in the country. Shri.M.N Chaini the President
of Corporate Affairs, Reliance Industries. Our
Chairman Dr.Joseph. VG was also present. The GCC
choir performed the prayer song. The welcome dance
was performed by a student from Roll 4 soul. The
dignitaries were then led to the dais by our chairman
for the lighting of the Ceremonial Lamp. The guests
were later felicitated by our chairman. Shri M.N.
Chaini in his speech spoke about
How challenging the corporate
world today is. He also spoke about Shri Dhirubhai
Ambani the doyen of the Indian Industry and his
struggle he went through to build an empire. He
said that as budding Industrialist and Entrepreneurs
we should have vision and work towards the vision.
He also spoke about the Movie Guru which is a
sequel to the life of Shri Dhirubhai Ambani. He
wished all students success in their respective
fields. Chairman Sir in his presidential address
thanked Shri.M.N Chaini for gracing this occasion
and said that we should all follow his footsteps
in life. The vote of thanks was proposed by Miss
Suchi of final year Genetics,
February 17th, the grand
finale
The valedictory function
of Gardenia began on Saturday evening at the GCC
campus auditorium. The Guests of Honor for the
evening were Mr. D T Jayakumar, Minister of Housing,
Government of Karnataka, Mr. Sandeep Dash, the
Executive Director of Finance Metro Rail Project,
Bangalore, Shri S Shankar, the director of marketing
and finance at Samcomm technologies and Fr. Austin
Hughes. The Chairman Dr. Joseph V G too presided
over the function. The programme began with the
GCC Choir singing the prayer song. What followed
was the lamp lighting ceremony. The guests were
then offered floral compliments. Mr. D T Jayakumar
was then welcomed to give his speech where he
related the virtues of education. He was impressed
with the college and the discipline of the students.
He also wished the Chairman the best of luck for
his future endeavors. Mr. Sandeep Dash then came
on the dais to offer his views on a good infrastructure
and its merits. Mr. S Shankar felt that team work
was the most important ingredient to be successful,
as he pointed out in his speech. Fr. Austin Hughes
provided the audience with inspiration to do good
deeds and won their hearts with his sense of humor.
This was succeeded by the presidential address
by the honorable Chairman, Dr. Joseph V G. After
the vote of thanks the programme came to an end.
