When the Journalism lecturer asked me to write about Kashmir, my
motherland for the benefit of GCC World readers, I didn't realize at
that time how difficult it would be to pen down my thoughts about my
motherland, a place with limitless beauty, no question on its
attractions, and perhaps a place words cease to exist that can indeed
describe it as well.
Kasheer as Kashmiris call it or Kashmir in its olden days was
ruled by Mughals for a very long time, and their imprints can be seen
in the form of the magnificent Mughal Garden which various kings have
made like Nishat, Shalimar, Chesmei Shahee etc. To walk along the
Bulward Road with sunset setting behind the enigmatic
Haree Parvat amidst Dul Lake is undoubtedly a pleasurable experience.
Places like Gulmarg, Pehalgam and Sonmarg showcase its
splendour. These places in summer seems to be furnished with eye soothing green carpet
and in winters their beauty becomes manifested with snow all around
radiating purity, calmness and the gods blessing on the land.
To say something about the people of Kashmir is indeed a tough
task. From time immemorial, Kashmiri Pandits and Muslims have been living in harmony. Quotes say Guest, should be treated as God and trust
me, Kashmiris actually implement it. Throughout the year, tourists from across the globe visit Kashmir and although they capture Kashmir's
beauty in their cameras or videos, the priceless possession, which they carry along with them to treasure throughout their life, is the love,
respect, concern and warmth, which they receive.
People say Switzerland looks like Kashmir but great news is
that that there is also a Mini Venice there. Yes, and it is the centre of attraction for all tourists. A major portion of Dul Lake is lined
with big houseboats made of Deodar wood that are worth crores of rupees. Their beauty is indefinable and the people who make it are
priceless. Its sight is a feast for your eyes. Inside, it offers you star hotel treatment and once you look out from the window you see only
blue water rippling and making heavenly sound. During evening time lights glitter and water shines with mountains all around
covered with trees and you sitting on the verandah of house boat your heart says: "Agar kahee jannat hai to wah yahi hai, yahi hai, yahi
hai".
Nature
has gifted Kashmir with beauties, which one can find in select corners of the world. The magnificent
Chinar Tree, which can be seen all around in the place in a gigantic beauty, sounds offbeat, but
trust me its true.
The size is big, it spreads itself very degnately and poses a great view. In autumn when the leaves become orange, yellow and fall on
the ground, one feels like seeing such a fall throughout his life. The dried leaves of China are used to make a
special kind of coal by burning to be used in Kangri. Now you must be wondering what's that? Well, well, well, Kangri is a type of firepot
covered with a beautiful cover of strong straws which are weaved in different designs by professional weavers. The idea of making a firepot
so beautiful itself speaks about the talent of Kashmiri handicraft starting from Paper Mashee, to hand made carpets to beautiful walnut
wood handicraft, al you can see people craving to possess them.
So many good things to
think about, even God has made the land pious
by his presence in the form of Amarnath, Kheer
Bhawani temple, Hazrat Bal, Chrar Shareef, but
still in midst of everything, there is a void,
a space left. A place, which should have been
world renowned for its splendour, is in news because
of Militancy, Terrorism and cold war.
Uncertainty resides in
air all the time. If you are at a place quite
and calm, you never know when a bomb blast will
occur chattering hundred of
dreams and drenching human life and expectation
with blood. A thought about this brings tears
my eyes and my sincere prayers crave to reach
Almighty's ears asking, pleading and begging to
shower his choicest blessings for the betterment
of the place and to its people, to again give
all Kashmiri's their golden peaceful days back
where they don't leave their home with a question
in their unconscious, "will I return in the evening
and see my family back."
The agony, the pain and the tears which Kashmiri mass has
witnessed is past 10-11 years is enough to make any some mans' heart melt.
I hope in the coming years, the people who have indulged
themselves in these in human activities will realize their mistake and try in restoring brotherhood again.
I am proud to be a Kashmiri and hope that I have succeeded in
giving all the
readers of GCC World a nice walk through the lanes of Kashmir.
