Unique in its own ways and living up to the motto of creating Dreamers, Achievers and Winners,
the fourth day of Gardenia 2007 got underway in a grand scale. The inaugural function was graced by one of the most personalities of the Reliance Industries Shri. M.N. Chaini, President
Corporate Affairs, Reliance Industries. GCC World caught up with the personality. Excerpts from the Interview:
1.Take us through your experiences at Reliance?
I will say that we all should learn form Shri Dhirubhai Ambani. He always believed that that
there should not be one Dhirubhai but a hundreds Dhirubhais. In Reliance we act fast. Time is
money so all the employers are asked to follow this. I've learnt a lot from Dhirubhai from the
time I've joined the group.
2.Sir, we heard about the University the Reliance Industries are planning to build your thoughts
about it?
We at Reliance believe the quest for excellence -Nobel laureates, science, technology and other
fields never ending. Reliance believes they are capable and confident to create a university
which will help students to enrich their knowledge. C.V Raman, in his guest speech at the
University of Stanford said that Indians are capable and confident in providing students with a
world class education. I think we will definitely live up to it.
3.Sir, what do you have to say about the movie Guru and its relation the life of Shri Dhirubhai
Ambani's life?
I see it in a different way. A young Abhishek is confident and not ready to give up what he
believes in. Well the movie has only a few incidents that relate to the late Shri Dhirubhai
Ambani's life but that is not all. I think all youngsters should watch the movie as a learning
experience.
4.Sir, what are the challenges facing the corporate world today?
The freshers are faced with a lot of challenges. I blame both the education system and the
industry because the students are not given enough exposure. A Canadian institution dean of
business makes sure that the students interact with the co-operative society every week to update
themselves with the co-operate world outside. I think the same system should be followed by the
Indian Education as well. I think that will help the freshers build their self confidence and
prepare themselves to challenge the co-operate world.
5.What does the corporate world expect from the Students?
What we expect from the students is for them to be aware of what is happening around the
corporate world. We want to them to excel in their own field of interest. I can only advice them
to do what they would like to be. The corporate world is like a visualization room.
6. Sir, tell us about your family and what values have you inculcated in them?
I had a very harsh childhood and will never want anyone to go through the same trauma. I was born at the time of the partition and I am sentimental about it. It was a very bad situation. I've
always told my children that they should believe in what they do. I have asked them to be confident and strive to make it in life. I am very spiritual as well.
