Gardenia 2007

Keeping the Tradition Alive

Tareshai Bissoo,
1st BA (Journalism)

It was a special week at Garden City College as the campus was flooded with enthusiastic young girls and boys dressed in different colours and styles. It was visual treat for those who had come to the campus to enjoy the cultural event.
Gardenia 2007 was inaugurated by Dr. Irani, former Physiotherapist, Indian Cricket team and President, Physiotherapy Association of India.
More than 125 colleges across the city and beyond participated in the fun-filled fest. The fest did not only feature cultural programmes but also provided the students the opportunity to showcase their talents.
There was along list of events such as radio ad competitions, creative writing, quiz, Indian and western dances, fashion shows, and many more. There were also departmental contests.
As a student of the host college, I found this fest a good opportunity for students from other colleges to interact with one another. This is the only fest that takes only Rupee 1 as registration fees.
I did attend the fest as part of the audience and sometimes found it a trifle disappointing.
The final day was not the best for me because of the dominance of fashion shows. I liked the Bhangra performance and the riveting performance by FAD students. Aside, Vishesh's performance to the song, Crazy Kiya Re moved the audience.
There is no doubt that this was a huge platform provided by the college for the benefit of the students.
