What makes you stick to a restaurant? Is it the ambience, hospitality or the Wquality of food served? Well, we got to the end of Koshy's food voyage and returned with answers. In life, we all encounter situations where in the dishes we get to taste once do not have the same taste a second time. But at Koshy's, every platter is and has remained the same since inception of the restaurant. This is what makes Koshy's different. Built in 1952 by the Late P.O. Koshy, this food joint not only serves Indian cuisines but many more from every part of the world - Continental, Chinese, South African, Korean, Japanese to mention but four. The restaurant has a unique record of having more than 800 varieties of food items on its list on any single day. A peculiar feature of the place is that one can spend the entire day with a mug of coffee on the table and there will be absolutely no waiter hovering around you. So do you want to know the reason behind this? Prem Koshy, the person who now runs the restaurant puts it in a simple word - Hospitality. According to him, when a person comes to your home, he or she is a guest. And it is quite obvious that you never chase the guests away. A firm believer in the adage, 'Guest is God', everyone who walks into the restaurant receives equal treatment. At the restaurant named 'The Jewel Box', almost every class of people frequent the place. Earlier, bureaucrats and businessmen patronised the place but these days, a lot of youngsters have also become loyal patrons. As and when one enters the place, there is the discovery of a new treasure, which could be a new dish in the kitchen hence, the name ‘The Jewel Box’. Another speciality of Koshy's is that five generations are brought together at one single table. The entire business is shared and there is a feeling of belonging. Every person who walks in feels that the place belongs to them. Absolutely no ownership, reasonable price and fantastic service- these three qualities make Koshy's the best place to dine in town. Unlike other restaurants, Jewel Box has an open kitchen where in the customers can step in and prepare food according to their tastes. There is an 'in and out' flow of just about everything. “People drop in and give their recipes for their specific food items which are later added to the menu,” inform Prem. “They can even take recipes of the dishes they relished at Koshy's.” When asked about his memorable and touching moment at Koshy's, Prem narrated an incident that happened when a German couple were enjoying their chicken puff. While placing the order, they were informed that it would be quite spicy. They still didn't make any change to their order but at the end, both of them were seen shedding tears. When everyone at the restaurant thought it must have been the taste of the food, Prem approached them to get to the bottom of the matter. To his surprise, they had with them a photograph they had taken when Prem was a child. He was pleasantly surprised but what really made him cherish that moment was the compliment that left everyone working at Koshy's with a satisfied smile, “It has been more than eleven years and the food still is the same, deliciously tasty,” echoed the guests. Now that is a compliment any hotelier craves for. It will not be out of place to mention the timings of the restaurant. The restaurant is open from morning 9.30 am and is closed at around 11.30 pm. The best part is that Koshy's will always be a place to rest and enjoy the food. Drop in at this treasure food court at St. Mark's Road, Bangalore and relish it’s jewels.
