Three cheers to the Indian Cricket team. The Cricket World Cup is Tours. This moment of glory was bestowed at the inaugural World Cup of Twenty 20 series. Our 'Bharat Ke Sher' gave us the enthralling performance, winning the match against our perennial rivals and neighbor country Pakistan. It was truly a nail biting finale. The performance of the teams was quiet sizzling. That is the reason the moment of victory was special for all of us. It came as a sweet surprise. This called for a celebration among all Indians. Many of them taking to their roof tops to welcome the victory by bursting crackers. This victory also brought the submerged hopes of many that was lost during the last World Cup in the West Indies. The Team lead by Dhoni showed that India could also out play the world champions- the mighty Australians. The victory may also open the doors for the Indian cricketers into the stream that was lost for some time in the field of advertising. But a question begs for answers. Where will this victory be leading us to? Would it be back to iconic status for players or would it lead to idol worship? We are yet to encounter on this. History has been the witness of such a play that has been consistent in India. We treat our players like gods. Yet, it has become more than a ritual. One failure rises to the success of the other. So why is it taken so seriously in games? It is a fact that there has to be a winner and a loser. But at times in spite of very good performances, we end up as losers. What can one call this? Destiny? The failure at the World Cup shattered every body's hopes. The critics thought that Indian team could no longer bring in their brighter side. But now it is a different aspect altogether. There will be slogans like “Chak de India”, “Bharath ke Sher”, well of course in all probability till they loose their next match. I guess when I was watching the match I felt all glory and honor for my country but patriotism is not just the game or rather it should not pop up or down with the winning and losing of matches. The support for our players should come through all phases. What is more important is treating the players as players and not as gods. We need to overcome this attitude towards the game of cricket that make us look at it as 'a life and death' situation. Odeal D'souza MS (Communication)
