Teachers have been and continue to be the most influential persons in the lives of several people. The experiences of some people reveal the relationship students share with their teachers. It goes beyond books and academics and life touches on several core values.
Changing Tide
Keerti (Name Changed), now a master's student reminisces how her teachers helped her during a mental
crisis.
I can very distinctly remember two teachers from my school life, Prof. B Venkateshwara and Ms. Razia
Begum. They helped me when I was going through a psychological crisis. I was living in a hostel at that time. In spite of being good at academics, I did not want to sit for my tenth class examinations. Prof Venkateshwara helped me tide over this period. For two months, he gave me his valuable time. He counseled me and told me to take the exams without any pressure. Due to his encouragement, I came out of my predicament and took up the exams. I passed my exams with flying colours. I would remain ever thankful to him because if it was not for him, my academic career would have been in a very precarious position.
Craving for More
Prasanth who is currently studying at city college does not seem to have had enough of his former teacher.
My experience with one of my former English professors has been great. He was a good teacher as well as
a good friend. He went ahead and took interest in our extra-curricular activities such as sports and
encouraged us to go for them. He actually made me see the importance such activities hold for a student and
helped me and some of my classmates to develop an interest in them. Even after his retirement we remember him and his ways.
Change in Fortunes
Sai Priya, a student of M.Sc. Genetics at Garden City College shares how her present academic
position can be attributed to her teacher.
“ A teacher can change the course of life. Very close to this statement has been my experience with Ms.
Premalata, my former teacher at Meenakshi College , Chennai. After the completion of my plus two , I
opted for studying Chemistry at the degree level.
Unfortunately all seats got full and I was offered a seat in Zoology. This disappointed me a lot . But Ms. Premalta who was a lecturer with the depa r tment of Mi c robiology explained to me the avenues that I
could explore after studying Life Sciences.
Today I am pursuing a Masters degree in genetics and I think things have worked out well for me.”
