Forensic science or criminalistic science is the investigation of crime with the application of Fscientific principles. Forensic science is a very challenging and interesting field for all inquisitive and adventurous people. Using all the latest developments in technology, forensic scientists convert clues collected from the crime scene into evidence admissible in a court of law. With the different techniques used by the criminals it becomes difficult for the court to check the potentiality of crimes and this is where forensic science comes into use as a part of the investigative agencies.

It is basically a laboratory based profession where students need to expertise in the knowledge of science to investigate and also in civil cases for issues like proving the validity of a signature on a will, to a claim of the products liability and to find out whether industries are applying to the environmental rules. These scientists analyse the physical evidences on the victims' body and compare it to the suspect and provide testimony in the court. These evidences include traces of blood, saliva, fingerprints and footprints, explosives, specimens of tissues for poison and blood for alcohol. This study is grouped into three:

Medical: This includes subjects like forensic pathology, psychiatry, psychology, forensic medicine.

Laboratory : This includes chemistry, biology, toxicology, ballistics, fingerprints and
impressions.

Field sciences: This includes crime scene investigation incorporating fire and explosion scenes and clandestine drug laboratories
