At the professional level in a work place, there are five types of people:
The one who takes up the initiative and work
The one who works only if instructed
The one who does not work whatever may come
The one who makes others work
The one who does not work himself and also does not allow others to work
Each of these qualities characterizes a person in totality and attitude prevalent in any workforce. It is also easy to identify which of these are the traits of a leader.
A leader should always lead by example. The sacrifices that the leader has to make in order to maintain the integrity of his workforce is immense. A leader is not born with all such qualities. He has to imbibe them from the surroundings and from others he interacts with. He should never put himself in a situation where he has to cut a sorry figure.
Making others work while the workforce still respects the leader is a challenge. Getting the work done could be in different ways. Sometimes it is through coercion, lovingly, politely or whichever method one may opt to use. The leader has to ensure that the respect he enjoys is never tarnished. The leader has to always work towards retaining a flawless image for which as I mentioned earlier, the sacrifices are many. The leader has to first be his leader and have control on himself, his mind and body and be the leader of his own home before deciding to be the leader of others. It is not that the leader will not be at fault, but the instances should always be kept in control.
Congratulations!
