Until now, most of the people considered the state of Bihar as under developed. There are Uothers who have gone to the extent of calling the state “Bimaru” or “sick state.” However, I assure you that after reading this article, you will think twice before clubbing the name of this northern state amongst the least developed in the country.
Those days are gone, when Bihar was considered as the synonym for crime, illiteracy and economic backwardness. Now, Bihar is on the path of progress. Development is generally defined to include improvements in material welfare, especially for people with the lowest incomes, the eradication of mass poverty with its correlates of illiteracy, diseases and early death. It also means of changes in the composition of inputs and outputs that generally include shifts in the underlying structure of production away from agricultural growth towards industrial activities, the organization of the economy in such a way that productive employment is general among the working age population rather than the situation of a privileged minority and the correspondingly greater participation of broadly based groups.
Instead of political factors, economic factors are looked upon as the founda t ion for ove r- a l l development. However, it is political and administrative factors that are most important if a state has to move ahead on the track of development. Enlightened electorates, educated politicians and morally straight administrators would ensure greater economic growth and development.
In the words of the economist, Lewis, “No country has made progress without positive stimulus from intelligent governments. And, it is clear from the scenario that can be seen in Bihar. As far as corruption is concerned, we cannot deny the fact that corruption does exist at the root level.
Let's start from education. Like in Bangalore, you can see the hoarding of different multinational companies
in Patna, the capital city of Bihar. You can find different hoardings for schools, colleges and a host of other
educational institutions. Institutions that offer coaching for competitive examinations are increasing at a fast
rate. And the result is for everyone to see. It is not a hidden secret that majority of IAS, IPS and IFS toppers
are from the state of Bihar. Even in Bangalore, a lot of Biharis are holding very good positions in the
multinational companies. But that is not all. From this year, Patna University has opted to integrate the relevant sections of the Oxford University syllabus in its own. One branch of the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) is to be set up in Patna. Hostels at the university that have not been maintained for a long time are getting repaired and repainted. Even the crime rate in Bihar has fallen drastically. It is clear from the daily news report on different news channels that there is not much crime news from Bihar as compared to other
states.
